Fifth, regarding "restored to their original state": this explains "original state" with reference to the ten types of practitioners. This was the illness of ignorance of the retributive body; now that the illness is removed, it is like the original. Originally, there was the mind of practicing worldly goodness, free from the harms of evil karma and the illnesses of the five dusts; now one returns to the original goodness of humans and devas, practicing the four truths to seek nirvāṇa. Being without the love of views, one now attains that prior mind; hence it is called "restored." Up to and including the round teaching it is also like this: originally there was the pure illumination of the Dharma-nature, and the illness of the deluded afflictions of the five entrenchments arose; now the illness is removed and one is equal to the Dharma-nature; hence it says "like the original."
