1.73

別釋中，若依名字為便，應先明觀智、次辨世境。若解義為便，前明世境、次辨觀智，以先有境可得論觀，若未有境，何所可觀？譬如鏡鼓，後方映擊。今從義便，故先境、次智。

In the separate explanations, if one follows the convenience of names and terms, one should first clarify the contemplative wisdom and next distinguish the worldly objects. If one follows the convenience of understanding the meaning, one clarifies the worldly objects first and distinguishes the contemplative wisdom next, because only when there are objects first can contemplation be discussed. If there were no objects yet, what could be contemplated? For instance, with a mirror or a drum, reflection and striking come afterward. Here, following the convenience of the meaning, objects come first and wisdom comes next.
