3.32

「今從別義」者，毒害，通名也。煩惱等，別稱也。「開三顯一」者，三即權，一即實。「亦復如是」者，三周俱名開權顯實故，例如今經三呪通名消伏毒害也。「更加」下，即初周名法說，二周名譬說，三周名宿世因緣說；例如今經三呪初名煩惱，次名破業，後名破報。

"Now proceeding from the distinct sense": Poisonous affliction is the general name; afflictions and so forth are the distinct designations. "Opening the three and revealing the one": The three are the provisional, and the one is the real. "Is also like this": Because all three cycles are named opening the provisional and revealing the real, by analogy, in the present sūtra the three dhāraṇīs are generally named eliminating and subduing poisonous afflictions. From "Adding further" below: That is, the first cycle is named the exposition in terms of Dharma, the second cycle is named the exposition in terms of parables, and the third cycle is named the exposition in terms of past causal conditions; by analogy, of the three dhāraṇīs in the present sūtra, the first is named afflictions, the next is named destroying karma, and the latter is named destroying retribution.
