4.28

「斯那聞下」等者，此屬第三明六根六字文義鉤鎖，故兩向科之。經云「時優波斯那聞是語已，身如水火」等，即簡聲聞。「觀無明行」等，即簡緣覺。「或入寂定」等，即簡菩薩。故云簡三乘人六門也。

Regarding "Upasena hearing below" and so forth: this belongs to the third section, explaining the interlocking text and meaning of the six sense faculties and the six characters; therefore it is divided into two headings. The sūtra states, "At that time, when Upasena heard these words, his body became like water and fire" and so forth, which eliminates the śrāvakas. "Contemplating ignorance, volitional formations" and so forth eliminates the pratyekabuddhas. "Or entering serene samādhi" and so forth eliminates the bodhisattvas. Therefore it is said to eliminate the six gates of the practitioners of the three vehicles.
