Regarding the sūtra's [words] 'possessing morality, concentration' and so forth: this accomplishes the fivefold dharmakāya. Guarding against wrong and stopping evil is called morality; quieting thoughts and stilling conditions is called concentration; contemplating and penetrating existence and non-existence is called wisdom; being freed from burdens, pure, and not clinging to existence or non-existence is called liberation; and having clear knowledge and vision regarding all objects is called liberation knowledge-and-vision. These five form the causes for constituting the body, hence called parts (factors); being worthy of following as a model is called dharma; and having the three meanings of substance, support, and aggregation is called body. Employing these five, it is called the dharmakāya. It belongs primarily to the Tripiṭaka [teaching], but its meaning extends to the four teachings.
