Regarding "again, concerning the various paths," these are the preceding four paths. However, the text only indicates the Tripiṭaka teaching, and the remaining three—shared, distinct, [and perfect]—are omitted. As for "directly cultivating causal conditions," such as directly practicing the six perfections and the four immeasurable minds without cultivating the contemplation of impermanence and without generating the four broad vows, these are merely the causes for humans and devas. Since this is also called a path, it must be set aside. What is now called the path specifically shows the bodhisattva cultivating the supramundane path; hence it says "giving rise to compassion" and so on. In the case of the shared bodhisattva, one must set aside the path of personal realization of the two vehicles; the distinct bodhisattva sets aside the path of merely emerging from emptiness; the perfect bodhisattva sets aside the gradual path. The present bodhisattva is Avalokiteśvara, who fundamentally cultivates the perfect practice; therefore, within one path he can contemplate all paths, and within one practice cultivate all practices. Thus, upon reaching the partial fruit, in accordance with capacities he is beneficially seen in four different responses. Unless one contemplates the mind as the three thousand realms and the three truths, who could ever reach this?
