The monk Huilang and others say: Reverently receiving the gracious edict ordering monks and nuns throughout the realm to chant and uphold the Uṣṇīṣavijayā Mantra, [we recognize that it is] the heart and eyes of all Buddhas and the ferry and bridge for the common people. Your Majesty, having received the entrustment from the Buddha, extends the Dharma transformation. Huilang, whose traces reside in the monastic gate, has furthermore undeservedly served in close attendance; in our share of humble sincerity, we are truly startled and truly joyful. We respectfully reflect that Your Majesty's plans accord with holy compassion and secretly assist in benefiting life; bringing about a realm of benevolence and longevity is accomplished in a single word, and broadcasting boundless felicity brings tranquility to the myriad states. Even the ghosts and spirits of mountains and rivers are none that are not pacified; birds, beasts, fish, and turtles will truly receive protection; monks have a path to advance along, and the laity forms a custom of shared goodness. This is Your Majesty's grace transcending the world, humbly receiving and applying the Supreme Way; how could humble monks understand it through their daily use? The moisture that nurtures living things is already so deep and thick; with what can we respond above to the virtue of Your teaching and guidance? Respectfully entrusting Palace Envoy Yuan Yingjin, we present this memorial expressing our gratitude for Your hearing. With sincere joy and delight, respectfully stated.
