秉羯磨人中，除二種人：一威儀師，立秉單白，為僧所使，不得輒坐；二開立說戒，為令眾聞。自餘一切皆須坐秉（必有餘緣，行臥亦得）。

Among those who execute the karman, two kinds of persons are excluded: first, the master of deportment (īryāpathācārya), who stands to recite the single motion (jñapti), being dispatched by the saṃgha and not permitted to sit down casually; second, one who is permitted to stand to recite the precepts, in order to let the assembly hear. All others must sit while executing it (if there is unavoidably another exigency, walking or lying down is also permissible).
