Third, determining the propriety of conditions: if one has violated the precepts or the matter is an improper condition, and one grants chanda, because the matter is improper, it is illegitimate and invalid. If based on the text, it only states six matters as legitimate conditions: Buddha, Dharma, Saṃgha, stūpa, nursing the sick, and being sick. The text formally lists them in full. As for the group of six stating chanda for robe-making, although not an official institution, the saṃgha accepted and practiced it. In vinayas such as the Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya, conditions such as guarding the room are all as clarified separately.
