Concerning the simple motion for upoṣadha recitation, it is divided into five parts: First, 'Let the venerable saṃgha listen' announces to the assembly, enjoining them to listen, causing the ear-consciousness to be activated to conform with the common rite of the saṃgha. Second, 'Today, on the fifteenth day of the bright fortnight, the saṃgha observes the poṣadha and recites the precepts' properly declares the circumstance and matter, informing the assembly so they may know thoroughly. Third, 'If the time of the saṃgha has arrived, let the saṃgha give consent and listen' properly clarifies that if the saṃgha has assembled in harmony, with attentive mind they should scrutinize and listen, weighing whether it is permissible or not. 'The time of the saṃgha has arrived' means that minds are harmonious, bodies are assembled, the matter is compliant, and the rite is fitting. 'Give consent and listen' encourages their sentiments to be harmonious and listen favorably, without contravening the affair. Fourth, 'Observing the poṣadha and reciting the precepts' reiterates the primary intent of the motion in the second clause, decisively determining its accomplishment and granting consent to what is being undertaken. Fifth, 'Such is the motion' means that since the matter has been harmoniously managed, the motion is concluded and announced.
