If one performs the ordination procedure, according to the Vinaya, interrogation on impediments takes place outside the boundary. When it comes time to request receipt [of the precepts], the ten people sit gathered closely together, and when demarcating earlier, it was sufficient to leave room for one person. If half the body is outside the boundary, then according to the texts of the Daśādhyāya-vinaya and the Samantapāsādikā, this still suffices to complete the saṃgha quorum. This is the definitive principle. If one follows past practice, the demarcation of the boundary fails, the procedure performed is not a legitimate transaction, one receives [the precepts] in vain for one's whole life, and doubt will perpetually weigh upon one's mind. The saying that 'the entire world is devoid of precepts' is verified by this. Extensive discussions of what to discard and what to establish are as given in the Yichao.
