言就時者。凡作法事，所為處重；多有非法，理須照鍊。闇夜屏覆，過起必多：或有昏睡，或復鬧語；威儀改節，便成別眾，或不足數；廢闕大事，不成僧法；良由倚旁屏闇，不祇奉法。事不獲已，夜乃為之。幸知不易，及明早作；則是非自顯，目對不敢相輕。

Regarding the timing: Whenever performing legal acts, the matter at hand is of grave importance; many unlawful practices occur, so the matter must be examined and refined in principle. In the darkness of night and sheltered concealment, many faults inevitably arise: some may fall asleep, or engage in noisy chatter; when deportment changes, it becomes a separate saṃgha, or falls short of the required quorum; this impairs major affairs and fails to constitute a proper saṃgha rite. This truly occurs because people lean against walls in hidden darkness and fail to revere and uphold the Dharma. Only when circumstances leave no other choice should it be done at night. Fortunately, knowing it is not easy, one should perform it early in daylight; then right and wrong will naturally become apparent, and face-to-face none will dare treat each other lightly.
