二道俗病患、生善滅惡；為益彼，而無為利。《四分》中受戒、懺悔、布施等，聽去。《十誦》問：為誰受七夜？佛言：為七眾興福、設供、懺悔、受戒、問疑、請法、有病、遭難，但使前見，便生善滅惡，應去。若遣使不遣使，俱得受之。若中路聞死、反戒、八難起，不應去。

Second, illness of monastics or laity, generating good and eradicating evil; for the sake of benefiting them, without doing it for profit: In the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya, for receiving upasampadā, repentance, giving, and so forth, one is permitted to go. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya asks: 'For whom may one take leave for seven nights?' The Buddha said: 'For the seven groups to promote merit, arrange offerings, repent, receive upasampadā, resolve doubts, request the Dharma, when there is illness, or when encountering disaster—as long as seeing them causes good to arise and evil to be eradicated, one should go.' Whether they send a messenger or do not send a messenger, in both cases one may take leave. If on the way one hears of death, abandonment of the precepts, or the arising of the eight perils, one should not go.
