1.61

若文義俱闕，則可舉一以例諸；或就理有，而成前事；或在文雖具，而於義有闕，便以義定之。故論言以理為正故也！或義雖必立，當部無文，則統關諸部，以息餘謗。

If both text and meaning are lacking, one may cite one instance to infer the rest; or, based on what exists in principle, accomplish the preceding affair; or, though the text is complete, if there is a deficiency in meaning, one then determines it by the meaning—for as the treatises say, principle is taken as standard! Or, though the meaning must necessarily be established, if this school lacks the text, one refers comprehensively to other schools to put an end to other criticisms.
