然文義決通，誠難廢立；自非深明律相，善達開遮；不然，便有累於自心，固無益於他境。故律云：文義俱同、文同義異、文異義同、文義俱異，具舒進止，不勞敘釋。

However, definitively harmonizing text and meaning is truly difficult in terms of abrogating or establishing [rules]; unless one profoundly understands the characteristics of the Vinaya and thoroughly masters allowance and prohibition, one will burden one's own mind and certainly provide no benefit to other situations. Thus the Vinaya says: "text and meaning both identical, text identical but meaning different, text different but meaning identical, text and meaning both different." These fully detail when to advance and when to halt, requiring no additional exposition.
