二不定中，文疏久列，在戒本解，略述大意。《多論》制意四種：一為止誹謗故，二為除鬪諍故，三為增尚佛法故，四為斷障道惡業次第故。

Concerning the two undetermined offenses (aniyata), the texts and commentaries have long set them forth, and they are explained under the prātimokṣa; here I briefly relate the main idea. The Sarvāstivāda-vinaya-vibhāṣā gives four reasons for their formulation: first, to stop slander; second, to eliminate disputes; third, to enhance and elevate the Buddhadharma; and fourth, to sever evil actions that obstruct the path according to their sequence.
