二對行說。唯漸非頓。以一行中，不得備修餘行，故作持名漸也。止持漸者，如正修慈心，不得修餘對治也；作犯唯漸，不可頓犯一切戒故。且就男子身，七心行殺，若以貪心殺者，單犯一戒；六不殺戒、四十九戒、五十六戒等，全不犯。並如前說。

Second, stated in reference to practice: it is solely gradual, not sudden. Because within one practice one cannot completely cultivate other practices, observance by action is called gradual. The gradualness of observance by abstention: as when properly cultivating a mind of loving-kindness, one cannot cultivate other antidotes; transgression by action is solely gradual, because one cannot transgress all precepts at once. Taking a male body, killing through seven minds: if one kills with a mind of greed, one transgresses a single precept; the six non-killing precepts, the forty-nine precepts, the fifty-six precepts, and so forth, are entirely untransgressed. All are as stated before.
