若論律懺，唯局道眾。由犯託受生，污本須淨；還依初受，次第治之；篇聚立儀，悔法準此。並如後列。

If we discuss Vinaya repentance, it is restricted solely to the monastic assembly. Since a transgression arises by reliance on the reception [of precepts], defiling the source requires purification; one must return to the initial reception and remedy it in proper sequence; the rites are established according to the classes and categories of offenses, and the methods of repentance conform to this. These are all set forth below.
