《鈔》者云：佛法東流，行此法者亦少；縱有行悔，則棄小取大，依《佛名》、《方等》而懺者。余意所未安。由心懷厭欣，未合大道；但篇聚依教，自滅業道。任自靜思，皆嫌發露可羞；而業由羞故結。此正藥病相治，不得不行。

The author of the manual says: Since the Buddha's teaching flowed east, those who practice this procedure have also been few; even if some perform repentance, they discard the lesser and grasp the greater, relying on the Names of the Buddha or Vaipulya sutras to repent. My mind does not feel at ease with this. Because their minds harbor aversion and desire, they do not accord with the Great Way; but by relying on the teaching regarding the classes and categories of offenses, the karmic path is naturally extinguished. If one reflects quietly, everyone resents disclosure as shameful; yet karma is bound precisely because of shame. This is the exact remedy that treats the disease; it cannot be left unpracticed.
