《善見》云：於大者懺，云大德；小者懺，云長老。《四分》：於上座懺者，具五法；小者懺，具四法，除禮足。《十誦》：應具五法：偏袒、脫革屣、右膝著地、兩手捉上座足（三說）。如悔過法。與欲清淨、受歲、出罪等法，威儀亦爾。有四種人，數數犯罪，數數悔過：一無羞，二輕戒，三無怖畏，四愚癡。

The Samantapāsādikā says: When confessing to a senior, one says "Venerable One"; when confessing to a junior, one says "Elder." Dharmaguptaka: When confessing to a thera, one has the five factors; when confessing to a junior, one has four factors, omitting paying homage to the feet. Daśādhyāya-vinaya: One should have the five factors: baring the right shoulder, removing leather shoes, placing the right knee on the ground, and grasping the thera's feet with both hands (three recitations). It is like the method of repenting faults. For rites such as giving chanda and purity, pravāraṇā, and mānatva rehabilitation, the decorum is also like this. There are four kinds of people who repeatedly commit offenses and repeatedly repent faults: first, those without shame; second, those who treat the precepts lightly; third, those without fear; fourth, the foolish.
