Third, cooking by oneself: in terms of place, it applies to both pure and impure grounds. In terms of time, it applies to both day and night. In terms of persons, it is restricted to the three classes of fully ordained monks, and among nuns there are four classes. Regarding food, discussing raw [food], the Buddha allowed recooking, so it is not an offense; among the four kinds of medicines, those kept for the rest of one's life through ritual enactment are also allowed. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: 'If it is raw food, once made pure by fire, it may be cooked. What is pure? Even a single touch of fire (rice, vegetables, and so forth are treated by analogy).' Cold food may be rewarmed. In the Five Hundred Questions: 'If medicine has been made pure, a bhikṣu may compound it himself.'
