Second: whether the two receipts apply to all four types of medicines. Physical receipt into the hand applies to all four medicines in order to prevent the appearance of theft. Verbal receipt is restricted to three, excluding food for the proper time. There is also verbal receipt that does not extend to physical receipt, being restricted only to the period before midday. For the remaining three medicines, physical receipt is likewise so; if one adds the verbal procedure, it applies to both the proper time and the improper time. The *Daśādhyāya-vinaya* states: Time-limited medicine (which is an alternate name for improper-time medicine), seven-day medicine, and lifetime medicine—these three types of medicine require that one be ill, and as long as they have not been kept overnight or improperly handled, one may consume them with both physical and verbal receipts.
