初明藥體。無八患者，得加口法：一內宿，內煮，自煮，惡觸，五殘宿，六未曾手受，七受已停過須臾（《僧祇》非時受不得置地停），八手受已變動（失本味故，類甜酢等）。

First, the substance of the medicine is explained. If it is free from eight defects, one may perform the verbal procedure: (1) kept overnight within the dwelling, (2) cooked within the dwelling, (3) cooked by oneself, (4) improper touch, (5) leftovers kept overnight, (6) not yet received into the hand, (7) left standing for more than a moment after receipt (in the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya*, improper-time medicine once received must not be left placed on the ground), and (8) change of state after receipt into the hand (losing its original flavour, such as turning from sweet to sour).
