初明藥體，自無八患：唯改第八，非是餘比丘七日藥，或犯竟殘藥；餘七同上。

First, the substance of the medicine is explained. It must naturally be free from the eight defects, with only the eighth modified: it must not be the seven-day medicine of another bhikṣu or leftover medicine from an offense committed; the remaining seven are as above.
