Question: Why is 'unreceived' not produced? Answer: The medicine was originally unreceived; by adding the verbal formula, it ceased to be unreceived. When the eighth morning arises, there is a natural loss of acceptance; this does not mean that it can produce 'unreceived'. It is not like keeping overnight: originally there was no keeping overnight, but because of the verbal formula, on the eighth day keeping overnight arises. Improper time is also like this: before the medicine substance had the formula, it had no proper time or improper time (one may receive it according to illness, and all are permissible); because of the addition of the verbal formula, the morning of the eighth day is termed 'improper time'. As for lifelong [medicine], hand [acceptance] is the same as before; verbal acceptance also has cases producing six offenses; taking it without illness is a duṣkṛta. The rest is fully clarified as in the chapter 'According to the Marks' under the three precepts on improper time, unreceived [food], and keeping overnight.
