Sixth, eating from a single portion: This means that because frequent additions increase greed, now one receives everything together into the bowl, estimating enough to be satisfied, and does not accept further additions. The Vimuttimagga states: "Regarding measured eating, to sever greedy indulgence, one takes up to twenty-one mouthfuls and so forth." As in that "Chapter on the Twelve Dhūtas," there are extensive antidotes. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa states: "Regarding measured eating: according to what one can eat, leave one-third aside; then the body will be light and secure, and it will be easy to digest without troubles. As stated in a sūtra, Śāriputra said: 'If I eat five or six mouthfuls and supplement it with water, it is enough to support my body.' For people of the Qin, it would be around ten mouthfuls."
