五觀食法。《四分》：上座應前問言：果菜淨不？若言未，語令淨。《僧祇》：上座當知誰看房、誰病，應語與食。若檀越惜者，應語長壽法，應與，不得不與。若日晚者，應先取，發遣令去。

Fifth, the protocol for inspecting the food. The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya states: The senior monk should go forward and ask: 'Are the fruits and vegetables pure?' If they say 'Not yet,' he tells them to purify them. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya states: The senior monk should know who is guarding the rooms and who is sick, and should tell [them] to give them food. If the dānapati is begrudging, one should tell him the method of obtaining long life, [that] it should be given, and it must not be withheld. If it is late in the day, one should take it first and dispatch [someone] to go [with it].
