The Three Thousand Deportments states: Entering another's room: first, snap the fingers from outside; second, remove one's hat; third, pay homage; fourth, abide with right mindfulness, sitting only when instructed to sit; fifth, do not forget to hold the sūtras. Five things for entering to inquire about sūtras: first, step down from the seat according to the Dharma to inquire; second, do not sit together; third, directly ask what is not understood; fourth, do not think of external conditions; fifth, having understood, pay homage with head to the ground and turn around to exit through the door.
