3.345

《四分》：上座不學戒，亦不讚歎戒，有餘比丘樂學戒者，不能以時勸勉讚歎。我見如是上座過失，故不讚歎；恐餘人習學，長夜受苦。

The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya says: When a senior elder does not study the precepts, nor does he praise the precepts, and when there are other bhikṣus who take delight in studying the precepts he cannot encourage and praise them in a timely manner. Seeing such faults in a senior elder, I therefore do not praise him; for I fear that other people will emulate him and suffer distress through the long night.
