《多》云：凡顯德有二：一為名利；二為佛法眾生，隨時自在，無所障礙。《十誦律》云：除疑故，得現通聖也。

The *Sarvāstivāda-vinaya-vibhāṣā* says: In general, manifesting virtue is done for two purposes: first, for fame and profit; second, for the Buddha's Dharma and sentient beings, acting with ease according to the time without any obstruction. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya says: In order to dispel doubts, one is permitted to manifest supernormal powers to sanctify [beings].
