First, explaining the propriety of traveling back and forth: The *Dharmaguptaka* states: Having completed the fundamental procedure, she must proceed to the bhikṣu-saṃgha on the very same day; failure to do so is an offense. If someone goes to the nunnery to confer the precepts on them, it is invalid. The *Sarvāstivāda Lineage Record* states: It is un-Dharmic and invalid. Just as when there are dangerous conditions regarding physical beauty, one may still send a messenger; but here there are no dangerous conditions, so even if done, it does not conform to the rules. If someone demarcates a boundary outside the nunnery and confers them there, the Vinaya has no definitive resolution; however, because one came out of partiality for the nuns, it is un-Dharmic and incurs an offense; but if judged by whether she obtains the precepts, it may also be accepted. Question: May a nun perform the fundamental procedure in a monks' monastery? Answer: As the *Vinayavibhāṣā* states: within the bhikṣus' boundary, establish a boundary for the nuns and have the nuns perform the ritual; receiving it by demarcating the boundary according to the prescribed form is logically acceptable and faultless. Question: What is the candidate who has completed the fundamental procedure called? Does she possess the precepts or not? Answer: It is merely a condition for the precepts; the full precepts have not yet arisen, yet in the Vinaya she is called a bhikṣuṇī.
