Seventh: the four types of medicines. Regardless of whether raw or cooked, grains, cooked rice, sauces, decoctions, pills, ointments, and extracts are all classed as heavy; even if kept overnight or improperly touched, there is no fault. The Vinayavibhāṣā and Sarvāstivāda-vinaya-vibhāṣā state: because the mind at death ceases in purity, there is no impurity from overnight keeping, improper touching, or trade. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya and Saṃghabhadra-vinaya [say]: if one is invited to a meal in the saṃgha and passes away, it follows the rule for distributing robes (the present assembly must apportion them into the heavy category); if one passes away beforehand and receives food afterward, it reverts to its original source; the same applies to receiving robes donated by others.
