Precept twenty-one: Keeping an extra bowl beyond the time limit. Five conditions constitute it: first, already possessing a consecrated bowl; second, acquiring another; third, a bowl conforming to Dharma, not other vessels for oil, grease, etc.; fourth, not having performed pure donation. The Samantapāsādikā states: If one buys a bowl and has not yet paid the price, it does not count as accepted; if the owner says 'Just take it,' it also does not count as accepted; keeping an extra is not an offense. If the price has been settled, the baking finished, and he notifies [the monk] to take it, exceeding the limit is an offense. Fifth, exceeding ten days constitutes the offense. The rest is as in the precept on extra robes.
