Precept twenty-six: Storing seven-day medicines beyond the time limit. Clarification of the nature, definitions, and valid/invalid empowerment methods of the four medicines is detailed in the lower fascicle and the Prātimokṣa Commentary. Five conditions constitute the offense: first, being of the nature of a seven-day medicine; if received directly by hand without verbal empowerment, there is also no offense of an extra [medicine]. Second, both the visible action and the verbal formula have been performed; third, not performing pure donation; fourth, keeping it past seven days; fifth, doing so without cause constitutes the offense. Vinaya allowances: if medicines past seven days, ghee and oil are used to grease door hinges, honey and molasses are given to orchard keepers, and on the seventh day the medicine is given up to other bhikṣus to consume; if the seven days are not yet complete, it is returned to that bhikṣu to rub on his feet or burn in lamps.
