Precept twenty-two: expounding the Dharma to bhikṣuṇīs until sunset. There are six conditions: first, being designated by the saṃgha; second, the community of bhikṣuṇīs has assembled; third, admonishing and expounding the Dharma; fourth, sunset; fifth, knowing and perceiving [it]; sixth, transgressing by not ceasing to expound the Dharma. In the Vinaya: aside from instructing, if receiving scripture, reciting scripture, asking questions, or concerning other matters, even up to sunset. Aside from bhikṣuṇīs, if transmitting scripture to other women until sunset, all are duṣkṛtas. As for non-offenses: instructing bhikṣuṇīs and stopping before sunset; aside from women, [expounding] for other people; if at a boat ferry one expounds the Dharma and bhikṣuṇīs listen; if traveling together with merchants and expounding the Dharma at night; going into a bhikṣuṇī convent; or if invited by someone, they happen to listen while one is expounding—in all such cases, there is no transgression.
