The Vinaya states: That practitioner of [penance for] concealment should, at the three periods of the day, visit pure bhikṣus. Whatever is to be done, he must do entirely according to the Dharma, and must not disobey. When it comes to the day of the poṣadha, he should sweep and sprinkle the poṣadha site and supply necessary utensils. He may dwell freely in a small room; if a guest comes and sends him out, he replies: “Because two persons are not permitted to spend the night together.” If the Saṃgha distributes robes and goods, he takes them in turn. Physically he sits in the lower row, but sits above śrāmaṇeras. He is not permitted to dwell together with, perform walking meditation with, or share a bench or plank with pure bhikṣus; on a long bench or long plank, he must set up a partition before sitting. Up to serving pure bhikṣus like the protocol for an upādhyāya, because the text is identical, it is not set forth here. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya states: A minimum of four pure bhikṣus constitutes a parivāsa. Two persons undergoing parivāsa may not sit on the same bench. He must not be sent on errands in secluded places, lest a visiting bhikṣu arrives and does not see him.
