Third, practicing the deportment of relinquishment. The robes and articles are bundled in three places: first, the bundle of extra robes; second, those separated from the robes; third, miscellaneous relinquishments. If the robe materials are in many pieces, they must be relinquished one by one. Now bundling them all together, the treatise says: 'A single relinquishment is accomplished.' Moreover, fearing that forgotten items will contaminate them, they must be treated individually. If it is an extra item, there is contagion, but miscellaneous relinquishments are universally applicable; for the single case of being separated from robes, contagion also does not occur. Bringing them into the saṃgha in this way, collect them in one place. That monk should bare his right shoulder, remove his leather sandals, bow to the feet of the saṃgha in the four directions, kneel on one knee with palms joined, and bend his body with lowered head while holding the robes.
