Disclosing known offenses. Going to the place of a pure bhikṣu, with full decorum one says: "May the Venerable One remember! I, so-and-so, have committed such-and-such an offense; now I disclose it to the Venerable One, and will confess it later according to the Dharma (three recitations)." This refers to: after committing it, if the dawn has not yet passed, one may practice this method. If it has already been concealed, then upon whatever day it is later disclosed, the offense is no longer concealed. If, although having recited it to completion, one conceals it again later, it becomes concealment again, and one must disclose the offense once more. If one commits a saṃghāvaśeṣa, and confesses and discloses it before the dawn has passed, one avoids the duṣkṛta offense and it does not become concealment; for the other five categories, one likewise avoids having to confess a duṣkṛta. The method for disclosing doubtful offenses is otherwise the same as above; one should announce: "May the Venerable One remember! I, bhikṣu so-and-so, have given rise to doubt regarding such-and-such a transgression; now I disclose it to the Venerable One, and must confess it according to the Dharma later when I have no doubt."
