The *Daśacakra Sūtra* says: Ten matters fail to accomplish the practice of dhyāna: delighting in manual labor, talking, sleeping, various worldly quests, and the six sense objects; acting solely for gain and offerings, having numerous faults and transgressions, leading even to entering the Avīci Hell. I permit pure bhikṣus to receive the foremost offerings. If a dhyāna-sitting bhikṣu lacks material provisions, he will think only of various evils; if the various requisites are complete, his mind will attain single-minded focus.
