The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya says: One must not sell divination, chant incantations, prescribe medicine to treat illnesses, and the like. Because such matters can be untruthful and thereby defame good people; if an arhat's divination can miss the mark, how much more so that of an ordinary person! The Vinaya says: Whenever one makes an oath, one should say, 'If I have done this deed, homage to the Buddha; if you have done this deed, also homage to the Buddha'; one must not mix in other things such as the hells.
