Under 'following the leap month', there are three parts. First, it shows the omission in the text. From 'by analogy' downward is the second, drawing an analogy; 'bi' means analogy. Earlier, the text of a treatise was cited. It states: 'If there is an intercalary fourth month, one takes the first fourth month to receive the rains-garments, reaching a full one hundred and twenty days; thus one knows that the intercalary month is contained therein.' From 'that' downward, it uses the permissive exception to illustrate the strict prohibition: if a lenient exception still conforms [to the leap month], an urgent prohibition should all the more follow it as standard. From 'further' downward is the third, resolving doubts. The doubter says: 'A leap month is an empty retreat; since it is not a regular month, leaving the boundary during the leap month ought not to break the retreat, so why is it necessary to observe the retreat during the leap month?' Therefore, this clarifies it: now we explain that although conforming to the leap month spans four months, the intercalary month is not counted in the tally; it is only followed out of fear of interrupting the three months of actual rains-retreat.
