In the procedure for allocating rooms: reallocating at the three seasons was the standard practice in the Western lands. It was feared that attachment would foster complacency and one would not contemplate world-weariness; for thinning desires and banishing stagnation, nothing surpasses this method. In the Eastern land it is not so, and thus it is entirely unheard of. Some stay together in a single hall, matching like water and milk; or they live separately in individual rooms, no different from the laity. Even an exemplary person relocates contentedly, whereas a petty person clings to his native soil. How much more should those of lofty detachment beyond the world not turn back to watch the stump! This has led to the sacred instructions standing empty, and the behavioral standards being forever discarded. Alas!
