正加中，心念中，初文。本是對首，以無所對，故開心念。初明開緣。獨住等者，等取蘭若、遠行（謂寄道中安居）、長病、飢時依親里，五緣。並約無侶，有即不開。故下猶須相待。若界下，示非法。即成別眾，人非所收。若待下，明如法。

Under "the actual formal performance," under "mental resolve," the first section: Originally it was face-to-face; because there is no one to face, mental resolve is permitted. First, the conditions for exemption are clarified. "Dwelling alone," etc., encompasses five conditions: araṇya, traveling far (meaning taking up vassa en route), chronic illness, and relying on relatives during famine. All of these refer to having no companion; if there is one, it is not permitted. Thus, below, one still must wait for them. Below "if within the boundary," improper Dharma is shown: this constitutes a factional saṃgha, and the person is not included. Below "if waiting," proper Dharma is explained.
