In the explanation of the Vinayadvāviṃśatividyā-śāstra, it first determines the name. From “having”, it reveals the benefits. In the second, “pure” means being free from contamination, and “upright” means being free from crooked flattery. In the fourth, beginning from the householder, it gradually leads to five kinds of abiding places. “And so forth” abbreviates the heavenly abidings (the six heavens of the desire realm), brahmā abidings (the form and formless realms), noble abidings (trainees of the three vehicles), and nirvana without remainder (the ultimate of the three vehicles). In the fifth, it first discusses its superiority in terms of the three vehicles in sequence. From “if”, it clarifies superiority among ordinary beings. Unless one is a person of elevated discernment and high attainment, how could an unworthy and low person uphold the Vinaya! In the text, “therein” and “this matter” both point to the Vinaya.
