In the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa, the text on breaking the precepts has five parts. First, five similes are used to reveal its evil characteristics. "Rākṣasa" is Sanskrit, meaning here "swift ghost." From "Although…" down: second, it clarifies that form is mixed and substance is discordant. From "If…" down: third, the effect is revealed within the cause. From "Also…" down: fourth, fearing evil retribution oneself. The upper two lines fear present retribution, and the lower line dreads future retribution. This is based on wise people. Often the blind and foolish die without regret. From "Like this…" down: fifth, concluding admonition.
