In the next section, it first clarifies the allowance to stand. In punishments and reprimands, he is not permitted to sit. From "below" onward, it explains the intention behind permitting standing. From "as for the rest" onward, it clarifies the prescription of sitting. This is like [the acts of] separating from robes, carrying a staff and sack, and repenting an offense. A request must be humble, kneeling opposite the Saṃgha; kneeling is similar to the sign of sitting, hence it is called "sitting to request." In the Vinaya, whenever requesting a procedure from the Saṃgha, it lists all five deportments, saying: "One should go into the midst of the Saṃgha, bare the right shoulder, remove the footwear, pay homage to the feet of the Saṃgha, place the right knee on the ground, and join the palms"; hence it is called "explicitly stated."
