斥師心中,初句示人。轉弄謂非智強智,雖非愚塞,復是狂簡。觀下,示彼行事,初句明乍觀似是。而下,示再考還非,初明人事兩非。謂人迷足別,事昧虛實。夢中觀海而況逾之,迷可知矣。量下,明法非。雖不守文句,而自裁過甚。照下,總結上非,違教結罪。

In [the passage] rebuking [relying on one's own] master-mind: the first phrase points out the persons. 'Twisting and manipulating' means lacking true wisdom yet forcing oneself to appear wise; although not stupid and obtuse, they are wild and rash. Below, from 'observing', it shows their transactional execution: the first phrase shows that at first glance, it seems correct. Below, from 'however', it shows that on re-examination it is actually wrong: first, it explains that both the persons and the business are faulty. This means that the persons are confused about who suffices to constitute the distinctive assembly, and are ignorant about whether the business is true or false. 'Observing the sea in a dream' is an analogy, and their condition exceeds even that; their confusion is plain to see. Below, from 'deliberating', it explains the defectiveness of the procedure: although they do not stick rigidly to the texts and phrases, their self-styled adaptations go too far. Below, from 'reflecting', it concludes the above faults in sum: violating the teaching and incurring guilt.
