In the detailed explanation: if divided according to framework and conditions, it would still divide into five phrases; here, following the meaning, it is divided into only three sections: the first phrase is solely framework, while the latter two treat framework and conditions combined. First, the first section: facing the preceding text of the jñapti, it says 'listen again'. Being the foremost among producing wholesome roots, it says 'not small'. Harmonious determination is caused by hearing, so it is designated as a condition. The second section is divided into two: first the conditions, then the framework. In the conditions, the text is abbreviated, merely marking 'and so on'. In full, it says: 'This So-and-so seeks to receive full ordination from the upādhyāya So-and-so; this So-and-so now requests to receive full ordination from the Saṃgha, with So-and-so as upādhyāya; So-and-so himself declares that he is pure and free of impediments, has reached twenty years of age, and has the three robes and bowl ready.' (All these are conditions.) 'The Saṃgha now confers full ordination upon So-and-so, with So-and-so as upādhyāya.' (This is the root.) In the framework: the words 'venerable elders' summon specific individuals; the Commentary says: 'Reaching the business lies with the Saṃgha; success or failure lies with the individuals.' It also says: 'Or there are texts saying "if it pleases the venerable ones"; ultimately it asks the individuals, naming them according to the occasion.' The above cites the text. Below, from 'directly', it briefly explains. The upper two phrases specifically point out condition and root; the lower two phrases generally explain framework and condition, revealing the intent of the text. The third section is divided into two: first, showing the root. 'To receive' (shòu) should be 'to confer' (shòu), still removing the word 'now'; below 'full' (jù), add 'ordination' (zú); in 'and so on', 'with So-and-so as upādhyāya' is omitted. In the framework, what is omitted above is the three characters 'remain silent'. Below, from 'single', it points out and shows. This can be understood. Below, from 'the [second and third]', it explains the concluding abbreviation: first, it cites the text. Below, from 'the first', it directly explains. The upper two phrases explain hitting the mean; the lower two phrases show the intent of the prescription.
