In the next section, on intrinsic precepts, the first line directly marks the teaching's intent. The text from "Meaning that..." downward explains and completes it, with the first two lines indicating that the text is relaxed. This gathers all intrinsic precepts, hence it says "all have". The text from "Although the text..." downward explains that the meaning is strict. The first part clarifies that the teaching is strict and practice is difficult; as shown below, two precepts are briefly cited to reveal the strictness of the teaching above. The two lines from "Since..." downward explain the aforementioned difficulty of practice. The text from "Therefore we know..." downward concludes. The "three times" refers to initial entry, while entered, and exiting; during these three times, if a subtle thought of pleasure is stirred, it immediately reverts to becoming a grave offense. Reviling refers to the precept against scolding among the ninety [pāyattikas]. If one instructs and admonishes with a compassionate mind, although one scolds there is no violation; if one gives rise to slight anger, it also incurs the principal offense, hence it says "exceptions are real while violations are incurred" and so forth. (The exception texts for both precepts are found in the Prātimokṣa-sūtra.)
