Second, expulsion (pravājanīya-karman): when the Buddha was in the country of Kīṭāgiri, because the two bhikṣus Aśvaka and Punarvasu corrupted families and committed evil deeds, he instituted the karmavācanā to punish them and drive them out of that boundary; hence it gets its name. In setting forth the faults, [the manual] first points to what gives rise to them. The upper sentence distinguishes ambiguities. Pointing to the four matters is also precisely the suspension procedure, not differing from before; one should know that speaking erroneously of the four matters applies generally to the seventh and ninth [pāyattikas]; it is only differentiated according to whether it is toward monastics or laypeople, and whether with faith or without faith. Next, pointing to subsequent precepts refers to the original narrative of origin; the Vinaya text lists them extensively, so they are not cited at length here; hence it refers to them as being below. The text from "inverting" downwards reveals the fault. The text from "hence" downwards clarifies the disciplinary treatment. The text from "causing" downwards shows the benefit. The text from "this" downwards encourages following it.
